Merbau timber, also called ‘kwila’, is very durable and termite-resistant, making it a highly valued material for flooring. The Merbau is harder, more scratch-resistant, than wenge and red oak flooring. It’s natural, rich reddish colour many find aesthetically appealing. Its grain is mainly straight and sometimes slightly interlocked. There are also instances of yellowy fleck running through it, which some find visually attractive. Plank surface looks smooth and glossy yet it’s coarse when touched. Merbau floor will darken over time to a reddish brown colour.
